The Prince of Wales Plans to Join COP30 Climate Summit in South America

The Prince of Wales will represent the United Nations climate conference in Brazil next month, as confirmed by royal officials.

Prince William and King Charles made a joint appearance on Thursday evening at a event leading up to the environmental conference, which is scheduled to take place in the northern Brazilian city of Belem.

The King and Prince were in attendance at the scientific institution event, marking an noteworthy combined presence at a climate summit preparatory event organized in partnership with the British authorities.

Environmental Advocacy Commitment

King Charles has been a consistent supporter of environmental conservation - and Prince William has inherited the mission, with his own environmental prize initiative, which will be taking place in South America preceding the climate conference.

Royal sources have described William's involvement at the next COP as stepping up an significant responsibility in "environmental negotiations".

Recent Engagements

The monarch and his heir, making a joint entrance in the official car, were welcomed guests including conservation experts, scientists, climate change campaigners, foreign representatives and politicians.

This engagement included speaking alongside French leader Macron of the French Republic and other international figures at the Marine Economy Conference in Monaco earlier this year.

The UN meeting will coincide with the the royal's Earthshot environmental awards, which will conclude in Rio de Janeiro the previous day he participates in the COP summit on the sixth of November.

In recent days the prince characterized the prize competitors as "contemporary champions".

Royal Climate Legacy

King Charles has been a prominent presence at past COP meetings, giving the opening address in Dubai for COP28, including the reminder: "We are custodians of the planet, not its owners".

"For decades I've committed a significant amount of my life trying to alert people to the existential threats confronting humanity over planetary heating, global temperature increases and biodiversity loss," the sovereign addressed participants.
