Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille on Penalties to Lift French Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the season-opening cup on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring early on.

However, Marseille fired twice late to take a shock advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital equaliser in the dying moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored with composure for PSG to seal a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
